HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!
Join
us as we celebrate our country’s freedom in the City Park, Tuesday
July 4th. We are expecting a spectacular show again this
year, provided by Elite Pyrotechnics. The fireworks begin at
dusk…….don’t be late! We are still accepting donations for the
2006 fireworks. The Chamber of Commerce and the City each
contribute $500 towards the fireworks, and the generous donations of
the community provide the balance of the funding needed. If you
would like to contribute, your tax-deductible contributions can be
made to the City of Riggins Fireworks Fund, City of Riggins, PO Box
249, Riggins, Idaho. The fireworks show is a Riggins tradition,
and we thank the Chamber members, the City, and YOU for
making this happen!
BUT, PLEASE REMEMBER……City code
prohibits all private fireworks within the city limits. Please
respect this law, be safe and leave the pyrotechnics to the
professionals!
GOLF TOURNAMENTS………
“INVEST IN YOUTH” is the theme for the 2006
Recreation Dept Golf Tourney scheduled for Sunday, August 13th
at the Grangeville Country Club. Mark your calendars for this
fun event…..there will golf, food, fun and raffles with lots of
prizes to be won! This is the major fundraiser for the Recreation
Department Youth Activities, which include Soccer, Little League and
the Science Fair. Everyone is invited to attend. Beginners are
welcome…..golf experience is NOT required!
The “Riggins Fire Department Dive Team” has
also tentatively scheduled a golf tournament for July 16th
at the Grangeville Country Club. Proceeds from this fundraiser will
help to complete the new building, and be used for training and
equipment. Watch for posters for more information on this important
upcoming event!
WATER & SEWER NEW HOOKUP FEES INCREASE
Effective July 1, 2006, the fees for new water
and sewer hookups have increased and new fees for unconnected
hookups will begin. Fees for new residential hookups are now $1500
for water, and $2500 for sewer, plus any costs the City incurs in
the installation. In addition $5 per month will be charged for each
approved water and sewer hookup, and will continue until the actual
connection is made and regular monthly fees apply. These new fees
and increased hookup fees will provide a tracking system for
unconnected hookups and funds to help with the engineering studies
of the water and sewer systems. We are nearing capacity at the
sewage plant, and increased development in Riggins requires that the
City’s utility systems be professionally analyzed to assure that
they can handle the additional load.
CONSERVE THAT WATER! YOU CAN HELP!
Please try to reduce the volume of water used
and discharged into the sewer system. Check your property for leaky
faucets, repair running toilets, install water conserving fixtures
and showerheads, or put a brick or rock in the toilet tank to
displace water! Use your imagination! There are many ways to be
conservative! If you have great ideas for saving water, let us know
and we will pass them on. We will all benefit from reducing the
volume of water used. Our wells and present sewer facility are
reaching their capacity quickly with the increasing water use, and
our serious conservation efforts could prevent the need for costly
new wells and treatment plant expansion.
