DIVE TEAM NEWS….

At the City Council meeting held March 13th, the Dive Team requested that the Council consider making the Dive Team a part of the Riggins City Fire Department.  They are requesting to be part of the City’s emergency services in order to maintain the organization’s longevity.  Although Idaho County has assisted the group in the past with loans of vehicles and equipment, the Dive Team is a non-profit private organization with no direct government affiliation.  They offered to transfer their assets (building, vehicles and equipment) to the City and to become members of the City Fire Department.  Dive Team officials are making this request to insure the stability and continuity of the organization and their service to the community.  They fear that without the help of the City, they may not be able to provide the necessary training and long-term administration required for the organization’s increasing/changing membership.

The Mayor and Council have expressed support for this proposal, but tabled the discussion until the May Council meeting, to allow for public input on the request and to research insurance and financial concerns.  The Council will be accepting public comment on the proposal at the regular May Council meeting, scheduled for May 8th, 7:00pm at the City Hall.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO WILLIAMS DRIVE

The Council is considering the request to close a portion of Williams Drive to vehicular traffic.  Williams Drive, a short, narrow (25’)  street with a 45° curve is located in North Riggins.  Due to traffic problems on the short narrow roadway, it has been proposed to limit traffic on the north-south portion of the street, which intersects North Street, allowing only foot and bike traffic.  The east-west portion of the road which intersects US#95 will remain open to allow the abutting properties access.  The closure, as proposed, would re-direct vehicle traffic bound for US#95 from Williams Drive to Salmon River Drive or Borah Street. The City is will accept public comment on the request at the Council meeting, scheduled for 7:00pm,  Monday May 8th.
