LET’S TALK TRASH………

LakeShore Disposal, with the help of the City Crew, have been busy disbursing the new garbage carts and dumpsters.  Locating all of the properties has been quite a challenge for the new company, since our community is unique, and not the typical city layout!  The City tried to help Lakeshore find all the crooks and crannies, but if you have not received your container, need additional dumpsters, or your garbage is missed, please call the City Hall 628-3394.

We have included LakeShore’s welcome letter with this newsletter.  Their letter, which is found on the back side of your newsletter, provides some safety tips and disposal guidelines as well as their request for the care of the containers and pickup area.

And, please remember……. the new garbage pickup day has been changed to Friday!

CHANGING OF THE GUARDS……..

At the January City Council meeting (January 14th) the newly elected Council members, Larry Barnard and Carolyn Friend, will be sworn into office for their four-year terms.  Larry has been serving as an appointed Councilor, filling the vacancy created by the death of Bob Harper, and has served on the Urban Renewal Board for the past year.  Carolyn, who has served one four-year term previously, will fill the position currently being held by Suzann Underwood.  They will join Tom Anderson, Glenna McClure and Mayor Bob Crump to guide our community as we navigate through the changing times in Riggins.  We welcome Larry and Carolyn, and the broad experience they each bring.

We offer appreciation and thanks to Suzann Underwood for her four years of service to the community.  Serving on the City Council is almost always a thankless job, but we do appreciate the hours (and miles!) she and all the Council members spend attending meetings, reviewing documents, solving problems, and listening to citizens (and staff!)

Thank you Suzann!  Good luck, enjoy your free time..…we will miss you!

URBAN RENEWAL AGENCY…..

Looking for a few good men (or women!)….

The Urban Renewal Agency needs at least one new member, beginning in January.  If you are interested in serving on this board (sorry, no pay or fringe benefits) please contact Mayor Bob Crump, any Council member, or June Whitten at the City Hall.  The URA meets regularly once a month, and is responsible for the budget and projects related to the Urban Renewal District, as provided for in the URD Plan.  The Urban Renewal District, which has now been active for one year, is a 10-year plan.  During the next nine years, the URD Agency will guide the projects and activities of the District, and will be an important factor in the increasing development of Riggins.

If you are looking for a way to get active in your community, think about the URA.

These are exciting times in Riggins, and this is your chance to be a part of history!
