STILL TALKING
TRASH……..
Thank you for your patience as we make
the transition to Lake Shore Disposal! We
appreciate your understanding during this time.
The transition comes with some changes for our residents, since Lake
Shore operates with much larger machinery. Because
they use an automated truck that mechanically picks ups the garbage cart from
the right side, the carts must be placed in more accessible areas. To receive
the best service possible, the following changes are being made:
Ø
Carts
should be placed near the front of the sidewalk, lid opening toward the street,
with about two feet of clearance between carts to allow room for the mechanical
arm to reach them.
Ø
Residents
on Church, Orchard and Cherry Streets should all place their carts on the south
side of the street. Since there is
no room to turn around, the truck will back down those streets, dumping the
carts from the right (south) side of the street.
Ø
Those
living on Dalton should place their carts on the west side of the street.
Lake Shore will drive to the corner of Dalton to access those carts and
then back up back to South Street.
There are some
private driveways that are not accessible by the larger truck.
Those residents will be contacted to place their carts in a more suitable
place. We urge your cooperation in
this matter. Lake Shore is trying to
accommodate our needs as best they can, but obviously the use of the larger
truck, combined with our narrow streets and driveways, will require some
adjustments.
The new pickup
day is Friday. However, if there is
a legal holiday during the week that closes the landfill, the garbage will be
picked up on Saturday. Lake Shore
will be providing a holiday pickup schedule, so please contact City Hall if you
have questions.
Again, we appreciate your patience during
these times as we work through the transition process.
We look forward to work with Lake Shore officials, who come to Riggins
with a cooperative, positive attitude.
It is our goal, and Lake Shore’s, to provide the best service possible
at a rate our citizens and business community can afford.
NEW COUNCIL SEATED
Newly
elected City Councilors, Larry Barnard and Carolyn Friend, were sworn in to
office January 14th. They
take over the positions previously held by Suzann Underwood and the late Bob
Harper. We welcome these two new
members to the Council and appreciate the experience they both bring.
Certificates of appreciation honoring the service of Bob Harper and
Suzann Underwood were also read, with Lorry Harper accepting the award on
Bob’s behalf. Mayor Crump
expressed the community’s thanks and gratitude for their leadership and
willingness to serve.

BREAKING
NEWS FROM THE SEWER DEPARTMENT…….
Our
application for $500,000 ICDBG Grant funding to help finance the sewer
renovation project has advanced into the second round of consideration!
Competition is fierce for this Idaho State grant funding, with many
applications being rejected in the first round of consideration.
This is great new for Riggins, in that our application has advanced into
the second and final round of consideration.
Final selection for the projects funded by the Department of Commerce
will come in May. If the grant
funding is obtained, the Council anticipates engineering design to begin at
once, with bidding and construction following in the fall and winter.
